Hugo Lloris: Tottenham need a better goalkeeper if they are to move on another level and win things, talkSPORT told
Tony Cascarino believes Tottenham will never win major silverware with Hugo Lloris between the sticks. The former strike ace and talkSPORT pundit has been critical of Lloris in the past and says his latest howler, against Liverpool on Sunday, proves he simply isnt good enough to be the number one goalkeeper for a club with title ambitions. With 90 minutes on the clock at Anfield and Spurs set to secure a crucial point, the Frenchman failed to hold Mohamed Salah’s routine far-post header and the ball trickled into the net off teammate Toby Alderweireld’s leg.Hugo Lloris dealt poorly with a weak Mo Salah header in stoppage time, leading to Liverpool’s winnerGetty2

Speaking on the Sports Breakfast, Cascarino said: Lloris is a very good shot-stopper. He has always produced them wonder saves where we all clap in the stands and say fantastic but every now and again more regular than most he will drop a clanger in a game.I dont think his kicking has ever been good, he isnt a footballing goalkeeper and Tottenham love to play and move the ball from the back. Hes never had the presence of a David Seaman or Petr Cech when he was at his best. I dont see a presence in the goalkeeper.Yes, he won a World Cup but he was behind a very good French team and in that World Cup final he conceded a stinker of a goal.It is not making Hugo Lloris a scapegoat for yesterday he has done it more often than most at the top end of the table.Lloris is distraught after his late howler cost Tottenham a point at Anfield2

Mauricio Pochettino praised Lloris as one of the best in the world earlier in the season, but Cascarino believes the Spurs boss will have a new goalkeeper in his sights this summer.I will be surprised long term – and I am talking into next season – if Pochettino doesnt buy another goalkeeper, he continued. He has already got a good one in there already but you need better. You need a keeper of the highest level to make your team go on to another level of not being second or third.I dont think he is as good as what you need between the sticks to go and win things.
