Harry Redknapp has claimed Jan Vertonghen can play anywhere after his immense performance inspired Tottenham to a 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.The Belgian was a revelation playing in the left wing-back position, with his goal and assist helping Spurs put one foot in the quarter-finals.With injuries forcing Mauricio Pochettino into changes at the back, Vertonghen was given a rare licence to attack and he would have surprised many with his superb display.He managed to keep English starlet Jadon Sancho quiet while also providing an attacking threat setting up Heung-min Son for his opening goal with a beautiful cross, before making it 2-0 himself with a fine volley.2

The 31-year-old even went close to a fine solo goal when he intercepted a loose pass, beat two players and fired the ball over the bar.It would have rekindled memories of his performances for Ajax, where he regularly played in midfield before his 12million move to White Hart Lane.And former manager Redknapp believes the game showed just how vital an asset Vertonghen is for Tottenham.It was a great performance, he told Thursdays Sports Breakfast.At half-time you couldnt really see it coming, Dortmund looked quite comfortable, but in the second half Tottenham really stepped it up and tore them to pieces.Vertonghen was absolutely outstanding – I was excited to see Jadon Sancho and what he could do, but Vertonghen completely dominated down that side, pushed him back and he disappeared.2

He looks like he could play anywhere. Hes so conformable on the ball, hes strong, powerful and hes got a great delivery of the ball, his crossing is superb.I think hes been quite an underrated player since he joined Tottenham, hes been a great signing for them.I think hes probably got the ability to sit in and play a holding role in midfield if he wanted to, he never gives the ball away. Hes just an all-round fantastic player.
